What is Business Interchange?

Business Interchange can help you update your vocational expertise through work placements, whilst providing full support to you and your learning institution. You can use the experience to help you meet the Institute for Learning's mandatory CPD requirements and to create relationships within the business community that could greatly benefit your organisation. And the more you learn about current business practices the more you can pass on to your learners.

Business Interchange is a government–funded programme which aims to help the learning and skills sector adopt business placements as a lasting model for developing the vocational skills of their workforce. This will help learning provision stay razor-sharp and industry-relevant.

By offering guidance and support, Business Interchange will enable the use of structured work placements for tutors in the sector, and parallel exchanges which allow industry experts to give time to local colleges and learning providers.

This follows a large-scale pilot in 2007/08 which successfully delivered over 500 work placements and was evaluated in consultation with a wide number of sector representatives.
